business ratings

All businesses listed on organicsa2z.com are ‘rated’. These ratings are provided as a quick help to customers to judge how organic each organisation is and what they can expect if they visit.

The ratings are guidance only and can of course be subjective. We therefore continually review ratings and welcome any comments either from the business itself or its customers!

We do hope you find the ratings of help... and here’s what they mean

how organic? - the green rating
indicates how much of the business listed is organic.

unratedunrated
Currently unrated by organicsa2z.com. The business is organic and we will rate it in due course.

10%small range (10%)
Some organic availability. A shop may sell a few organic food or gifts, or a restaurant may offer some organic drinks.

25%quarter organic (25%)
A reasonable range of organic items for sale. The business is obviously putting an effort into being organic.

50%half organic (50%)
The business is significantly organic. You can expect quite a commitment from this business.

75%majority organic (75%)
This business is essentially organic. Non-organic is here a minor part of the business.

100%organic (almost 100%)
This business is organic. Probably a speciality organic store, grower or producer. Any non-organic items are probably a necessity.

what can I buy? - the blue rating
if you shop with this business, how much of your regular grocery shopping can you expect to get in the one place. blue ratings are only relevant for retailers.

unratedunrated
Currently unrated by organicsa2z.com.

specialistsmall range of groceries (10%)
(or specialist).
Either just one particular type of grocery (butcher, baker, dairy), or a small range of gift foods. So does sell food, but don’t expect to get more than specific items here.

small rangereasonable range of groceries
Quite a range of groceries, but could be missing many areas. e.g. no veg, no frozen or dairy, no meat etc. Possibly just tinned, packeted foods, or perhaps just fruit and veg.

good rangegood range of groceries
A good range of groceries, although you’ll probably need a couple of other shops to complete your regular shopping.

large rangemost groceries available
Most of your regular shopping can be done here. There might be a shortage in a particular area only (e.g. petfood, cleaning goods etc).

full rangefull grocery range
You can buy all of your regular grocery shopping here. A one stop shop.

Remember that only retailers have two ratings. A restaurant or grower or organic garden will only have the organic rating.
A large supermarket (Tesco, Sainsbury etc), may have a full grocery range (full range),
but will only rate as a small organic range (10%) due to the size of all its other non-organic offerings. Remember to use the ratings as a quide only.
In contrast, a  small, specialist baker who only makes organic bread, will get a full organic rating, but a small grocery range as a specialist. i.e. 100%specialist
